Greetings! My name is Nicholas Scales, born and raised in the Greensboro, NC area. I am a full-time civil engineer and a part-time furniture maker/handyman. From The Ground Up DIY began in 2019 during my last semester of undergrad when I was considering different means of becoming self sufficient financially. My overall goal was to payoff my upcoming student loan debt. At the time, I started to stumble upon DIY woodworking and home improvement videos on YouTube. I really enjoyed watching these videos and learning the different processes of how people make things. After my graduation in 2019, I began to make my own DIY projects. I started out building woodworking & home improvement projects for my close family & friends which strengthened the basic skills that I needed. After doing multiple projects over the following months, I decided to make things official and start From The Ground Up DIY.

Along with building projects, I truly enjoy educating people on the projects that I build. This website, my TikTok page, YouTube channel, Facebook page, & Instagram page allow me to bring people along the process of my projects & gives me the opportunity to teach the woodworking & home improvement skills that I have learned along my journey so far. It is truly fullfilling to see people watching my content & feeling confident enough to try to make a project or try a new skill on their own! The best part about educating is that me and my audience are able to identify problems, come up with the best solutions, & learn through our mistakes so that we can become the best creators that we can be!
